Winning story!

And the winning story, with 25 out of the possible 100 votes (it was a very close poll!), is…

A World of Secrets!

After being attacked, Sam wakes up in a dark place, surrounded by strangers. He escapes them only to find that his life won’t be going back to normal any time soon…

This marks the beginning of a new AU, Brothers Unexpected! Where Sam is separated from Dean, but not from humanity, despite his new curse.

Sneak peek:

The blue-eyed man brushed Sam’s messy hair back. “My name’s Walt, and this is Mallory,” he introduced, his voice remaining level. “A few days ago, you and your brother got attacked. Do you remember that?”

Sam nodded mutely.

“That lady… the w-itch…” Walt was uncertain as he enunciated the word as though he’d never said it before. “She hit you with something. Some… spell. After it was cast, your brother couldn’t see you.”

Walt swallowed thickly. “We got you out before you got hurt more… but Sam… your family. They’re gone. The witch ran and they chased her.”

Sam’s eyes started to spill over. “N…no,” he mumbled. “Dean wouldn’t leave me. They wouldn’t abandon me!” By the end, he was shouting, his thin voice going up an octave in his panic. The memories in his mind clamored for attention. They overlapped and caused his breath to hitch.

Both Walt and Mallory flinched at the sound of his shout, eyes nervously flashing to their ceiling. Mallory put a delicate hand on Sam’s shoulder. “Sam, they never wanted to,” she said in her lyrical voice. “They thought the witch killed you and just wanted to…” She trailed off, her eyebrows furrowing uncertainly.

“She cursed you, Sam,” Walt cut in gruffly. “Everyone you knew is a giant. That’s why they didn’t see you and that’s why we had to get you out of there. They’re dangerous.”

A silence stretched out between them. Sam’s hand started to shake, more of the cup crumpling inwards as a tear slid down his cheek. “G-giants?” he asked timidly.

Something in his mind clicked before Walt could get out another word. “No! ” Sam stated firmly. “Dean’s not… Dean would never…” His words jumbled and he started to hyperventilate.

Sam shoved the covers off. His water splashed out of the deformed cup. Droplets of water spilled onto the wooden flooring.

Hot. He was too hot.

The world was too cold but he was too hot.

Walt just barely managed to catch the metal cup as it fell, but it was too late.

Sam stumbled out of the bed… nest… fabric. He almost fell over to dodge a well-meaning grab from Mallory, her face covered with sympathy. Sam squirmed between the two people that had saved his life, his desperation giving him energy to escape.

He needed to go. Dean was out there, he had to be.

Sam just had to find him.

Shoving the fabric draped over the doorframe, Sam ignored the cries of alarm that came from his former room. His eyes darted around the new room, and he quailed at the sight of a penny casually kicked against the side of the wall.

It was large enough to serve as a dinner plate.

No, they’re making it up. They’re lying, they have to be!

As soon as he saw another doorframe, Sam ran for it. He had to get out before they grabbed him and put him back in bed. There might not be another chance for escape. Dean always told him to watch out for himself. A hand brushed reflexively against the knife tucked away in his soft tan jacket and Sam prayed he never had to use it.

There was a block in front of the door. It was heavy, but Sam shoved it to the side. The adrenaline filling him made his hands shaky, but it gave him energy he could draw on. He needed to get away, he needed to escape.

A dark passageway arched overhead. The panic that Sam was drowning in refused to let him really see it. He couldn’t make out the cobwebs that lurked in the unreachable corners. The nails in the wooden walls were bigger than his hand but his eyes just brushed over them. He needed to run.

And so he ran.

Wind whipped Sam’s hair into a frenzy. In the distance, the sound of boots came. He was being followed. Panic lent speed to his strides, and Sam pushed himself like he’d never pushed himself before. It was a race. He needed to find a way out of this dark world before that Walt could catch him. It was as simple as that.

Sam’s eyes flashed from side to side as he searched for a way out. The dark walls were dusty, but footprints could be made out in the thick dust. Sam set himself to following them, driven by desperation. He was only ten, and his legs weren’t as long as Walt’s. If it took him too long to find help, he’d lose the race.

“Sam! Wait up, please! You don’t understand!”

Sam pushed the voice out of his mind and ran even faster, if that was possible. A wood splinter jutted out, nearly tripping the young kid up, but he only stumbled, scraping one hand against the ground. The skin was raw and red as he forced himself to run again.

He spotted a light in the distance, and a tiny bubble of hope filled his chest.

A way out.

There was another shout, but Sam didn’t even hear it this time. The wall gave way to an opening where the light was, and Sam felt triumph fill his chest as it turned out to be warm motel room light. He was safe. He could just walk out the door and go search for…

Any thought he had in mind trailed off as Sam skid to a halt.

Something was more than wrong. The room was distorted, the beds and walls arching up over his head by what seemed like miles. He’d run right past the gigantic nightstand, thinking it was just another hallway, leaving him exposed in the center of the floor.

Sam froze, his entire body filling with fear as he realized that Walt may have been telling him the truth.

Pool Time

anonymous asked:

Now that summer is here, would BA Sam and Dean ever want to go swimming in a pool (with no one else there, of course)? I can imagine that’d be a bit scary for Sam but with Dean there it could be fun!

The moment Dean finds out that Sam can’t really swim (he hasn’t had a chance to practice since he was 10…), he’ll insist on starting small… like a sink. That way his little brother doesn’t go sinking to the bottom of the pool the second he gets in.

If they go swimming in a pool, they just have to make sure no one else is around to see the surprise borrower guest!

Destiel question

jayadawnyvonne asked:

An idea/question Do u ship destiel ? Because what if tiny dean/ or big dean finds a smol cass in the walls with sam ?? Instead of cass being an angel ?

Well, personally I don’t really ship any of the major ships on Supernatural, and I tend to avoid posts on them for the most part. You won’t see any ships featured directly in the Brothers Apart series, but of course feel free to interpret the characters however you choose.

WITH THAT SAID, I do know this amazing little fic where Castiel lives in the walls of a motel with his family and encounters the Winchesters… I highly recommend it! It’s angsty and fluffy, and one of my favorite g/t fics that I discovered on Archive of Our Own.

Go check out Little Angels by besully (Briar_Elwood)

Six-inch tall Castiel lives his life collecting trinkets from the residents of Paradise Motel, quietly sneaking in and out, never being seen. One morning he’s almost seen by two new residents: Sam and Dean Winchester who are checking out a supposed haunting at the motel. Turns out, they’re not really after a ghost….

Castiel even has his wings!

Size Difference in Relationships

anonymous asked:

hi I’ve been a big fan of yours ever since I read your stories while you were still in the midst of posting Taken though it’s been more on the stories side and it’s only recently I’ve started reading through everything here so I don’t know if you’ve answered this before, but would you ever write a story where a borrower and a human are in a relationship? could be platonic romance or whatever you feel like but I’m just wondering

It’s so good to hear from you! Good luck going through our tumblr– it’s gotten a bit messy, but there’s a looooooot of stuff here for future stories/snippets/sneak peeks, along with tons of musing and prompts/asks. And all the wonderful arts :3 Not to mention the asks we get in, which are tons of fun answering.

As for relationships. Admittedly, all three writers for the BA multiverse are ace, so we don’t often delve too far in. That said, there are a few relationships that will be shown prominently in the story, and at least one or two will happen with the two people at different sizes!

Stan and Nate are one of our major couples, and being soulmates, they always tend to find their way to each other in the end. Yet with a few storylines we have plotted out, they don’t start or end up at the same size all the time!

Nate’s not going to let a little thing like size keep him from stealing a kiss!

Artwork by @ghostquack

As for same-size relationships, Dean’s had a fling in Brothers Lost with a borrower he encountered on a hunt, and in the last season of Brothers Apart, Sam will also be finding himself some love!

There’s plenty to look forward to 😉

Future Things in BC

anonymous  asked:

Will Sam ever meet Mycroft in BC?

It’s not going to be for a long, long time, but yes! We do have plans where Sam will also have the chance to meet Mycroft!

Stan Baker is the agent that they’re going to be in contact with most often, and will be doing the legwork when it comes to any jobs Mycroft has, but we will see Mycroft himself returning in the future. We have quite a bit of the story for BC plotted out, the main task now is actually getting it written down and edited up for posting. Things are getting easier now that @borrowedtimeandspace has graduated college, we’re hoping to hop back into this.

It’s quite fun to put these characters from Supernatural and Sherlock in the same rooms with each other, we’re never quite sure exactly how they’ll react!

Brothers Saved: TV Time

Last short story for the moment!

Brothers Saved is far from over, so be sure to stay tuned for this AU! It has stories planned with both @neonthewrite and @borrowedtimeandspace, and I’ve slowly been working through their future relationship with each other and John (you can find a quick peek of that here).

So there’s plenty more coming! In the meantime, I’m still looking for prompts for this story, so feel free to send them in!

Dean had grown somewhat adjusted to the heights he saw constantly from Sam’s hands, but he felt he might never adjust to being so easily picked up and moved around by his younger brother.

When Sam stood, he had Dean standing in one hand and the other hand was occupied by the flashlight they had used to attempt to probe the inside of the walls with. Unfortunately, the entrance to the walls was too small for the flashlight or Sam to fit, and Dean could only make out the details to the edge of the area the light filled. Beyond that was solid darkness, where anything could be lurking.

Though he had a silver knife and his colt, Dean didn’t want to chance getting attacked by any rats or pests in the walls while he was unprepared, and Sam was already anxious about the entire idea of Dean exploring out of sight, so he had decided to pass up the chance and instead stick with Sam to watch some cartoons while they waited around the house.

John and Bobby were out again, but their trips to try and track the witch down grew shorter and shorter as time went on. The trail had grown cold and no new evidence had been found.

It was as though, after laying her curse on Dean and being thwarted from doing the same to Sam, she had given up her attack on the Winchesters and vanished into the wind.

From the last update they’d received, Bobby would be returning that night. He had other cases to deal with, and other hunters clamoring for help with research. Due to Dean’s delicate situation, Bobby had essentially closed for business with the others temporarily, not wanting to chance the tiny teenager being mistaken by a hunter as a threat and…

Dean shut down that line of thought. It wasn’t going to happen, so he shouldn’t dwell on it.

With everything on his mind, Dean was almost able to ignore the fact that Sam had to go down the stairs to get to the room with the TV. Dean was solidly convinced that anyone would be wary of the way the ground rushed up at them while the ten-year-old kid went downstairs. At only a few inches tall, Dean ended up clinging to Sam’s nearby thumb for balance and security. As usual, Sam said nothing about it and merely curled it around Dean’s waist for a better grip.

Adjustments like this were almost becoming second nature.

When they arrived downstairs, Sam stuck the flashlight on the coffee table and grabbed the remote instead. As he clicked the TV on, he flopped down onto the couch and kicked up his feet.

Dean didn’t much expect when the surface he was on went sideways. Sam’s grip remained secure throughout the transition, but Dean’s stomach flipped and he clung tight.

When everything fell still, Sam gently uncoiled his hand from around Dean, finding his brother ghost white and attached to his thumb. Lifting his hand to try and dissuade Dean from hanging on, Sam looked at him in concern. “You okay?”

When Dean didn’t answer, Sam had to bring his second hand over and gently wind a finger under Dean’s arms and carefully pry him off. When the finger he was gripping vanished from between his hands, Dean blinked rapidly, coming back to himself with a gasp when he realized he’d been holding his breath.

“What was that?! ” Dean burst out indignantly.

Sam shrugged, his shoulders awkwardly situated against the couch cushion. “Just getting ready for the show.”

Dean jabbed a finger at Sam. “Next time you want to pull something like that, give me some warning. Geeze.”

With that, Dean collapsed backwards, laying down and staring up at the ceiling far over his head. Sam eyed him for a few seconds to make sure no further outbursts were incoming, then returned his attention to the TV and began to flip through channels to search out the cartoons that usually aired this late in the afternoon.

Considering how shaken Dean was from Sam’s quick drop to the couch, it was understandable that it took him several minutes to realize the surface he was on wasn’t flat, or solid the way the coffee table would have been. In fact, it was remarkably comfortable, and heated.

When Dean realized it was also moving, he jolted to his feet in shock and stumbled to see where he was.

Distracted from the show by Dean’s sudden movements, Sam blinked at him in confusion. “Show’s on,” he reminded Dean, gesturing at the TV.

“The show’s on?” Dean repeated in disbelief. “The show’s on.” He stomped a foot into Sam’s chest, the place he’d been casually deposited minutes before. “Whatever happened to personal space, dude?”

Sam grinned at that, hardly paying attention now that he knew why Dean was indignant. “Thought you’d like to be somewhere we can talk,” he pointed out tiredly, glancing between Dean and the TV set. The show was obviously drawing at his attention more. “Can’t hear you on the coffee table.”

“Yeah… well…” Dean didn’t have a ready comeback for that. He had to settle with “Next time, warn me before you just drop me here!”

Sam poked Dean in the side. “The good part’s coming on,” he reminded Dean. “You don’t want to miss it.”

Dean sent Sam a look, but couldn’t help glancing back at the TV. Sam wasn’t the only one who enjoyed a good episode of Sonic, even if Dean rarely admitted it.

“Fine,” Dean said in a huff, sitting down in aggravation. “Just because I can’t have you using any more excuses for not listening.”

Sam smiled, relaxing into the couch. He wouldn’t admit it out loud to Dean, considering the situation his older brother was in, but it was nice to have the couch to himself, with plenty of room to stretch.

“Whatever you say, Dean.”

Brothers Saved: Hidden Entrances

Brief time jump! Things are settling down, John and Bobby keep searching for a cure, and the boys spend their days getting used to Dean’s new height and exploring the old house!

Lucky for you Brothers Saved fans, I forgot this part of the story is split into two parts, so tomorrow we get ONE MORE CHAPTER! After I get home from work tomorrow you will be treated to Brothers Saved: TV Time

“Whaddya think’s in there?”

Sam squinted his eyes, flat on his stomach in order to see where Dean was gesturing to.

The smaller Winchester was peering into a crack they’d found in Sam’s room at Bobby’s house. They’d never noticed it before, after years of staying in the place. Not until Dean, reduced to a fraction of his height, had begun investigating the room while Sam read a book on the floor, relaxing in the summer heat with a glass of water nearby to help keep cool.

Exploring the house at his new height was turning out to be a good way to pass the time while John and Bobby continued to try and track down a cure for Dean.

Sam stayed nearby, always keeping an eye out for any possible dangers for Dean. He was just as fascinated as Dean was at the new way of looking at the house, and kept pace with his older brother whenever they found something new and unexpected.

Like this crack in the wall, just wide enough for Dean to slip through, but too thin for Sam to fit his hand into.

“Think we should grab a flashlight?” Sam asked with a faint frown. The inside of the walls was pitch black, too dark for him to make out any features. If they couldn’t see, they couldn’t know what else might be in there.

“Yeah!” Dean said enthusiastically, glad for anything that would break the tedium that came from staying at a house that only had basic cable and he was too small to work on the junk cars out back.

Moments later, Sam had rustled up one of the clunky flashlights that Bobby had his place stocked with, and flicked it on. The sudden onset of bright light left Dean blinking to get rid of the glare, and keeping his hand up to try and block it. “You mind?”

“Sorry!” Sam hissed between his teeth, fumbling for a second before he had it correctly pointed at the dark hole. Lying flat on the floor again, he still could only make out the first few inches before darkness ate away at the light.

“Cool,” Dean said, leaning in and looking around.

If Sam hadn’t pinched Dean’s shirt at the last second, he might have vanished into the walls there and then.

“Hey!” Dean protested, his arms pinwheeling as he nearly lost balance.

“You’re supposed to stay where I can see you,” Sam pointed out. “Remember? Dad’s gonna get mad if you get stuck in the walls and I can’t get you out.”

Dean rolled his eyes, batting at Sam’s big fingers. Sam didn’t relent, keeping his grip on Dean’s shirt firm. “I’ll be fine, Sam, I’ll just go a few inches!”

Chewing the inside of his lip, Sam considered. “Where I can see you?” he asked.

Dean scowled. “Yes,” he huffed in annoyance. “You know, I can still take care of myself, I’m not an infant!”

Sam’s resistance crumpled. “I’m just trying to help,” he insisted, his voice cracking with guilt. His grip on Dean’s shirt vanished.

“Shit, Sam,” Dean took a few steps towards Sam. “I didn’t mean it like that, right? I won’t let you get in any trouble, I promise. I just wanted to see what’s in there.”

Sam nodded glumly, his hazel eyes staring at the ground under Dean instead of meeting his gaze. ” ‘Kay,” he said, his voice subdued.

“I won’t go out of sight, promise,” Dean said, nudging Sam’s hand with a boot. “Dad can’t get mad at you.”

As much as Dean hated the way John had put the sole responsibility of the brothers on Sam’s shoulders now instead of his, he didn’t want Sam to suffer because of it. It wasn’t Sam’s fault any of this was happening.

Sam half-heartedly nudged Dean back, giving him a ghost of a smile before it fell.

“After this, we can go watch some cartoons, okay?” Dean coaxed, determined to cheer Sam up. “I’ll even let you be in charge of the remote.”

Sam’s eyes lit up. “Let’s watch Sonic!”

“Deal,” Dean agreed easily. “As much as you want.”

With Sam’s agreement obtained, Dean inched to the dark opening. As much as he wanted to dive in and check things out, he was cautious as he stuck his head into the walls.

The light from the flashlight went several inches before it hit the wall in front. In each direction, Dean could see that the inner walls stretched out from where he was. Small motes of dust floated in the air, and he tried to wave them away before giving up. All his motion accomplished was causing more to swirl up from the floor and walls.

The sights reminded Dean of the hallway of an abandoned house. He’d gone with his dad on a few of the smaller hunts. If they just put some furniture and hung pictures on the wall, this would fit the view of any one of thousands of old homes out there.

The floor shook a little under Dean’s step, and he glanced over his shoulder to see Sam fidgeting. The kid might have been won over by Dean’s bargain, but he was obviously still nervous about losing Dean in the walls. Dean backtracked out of the walls, coughing away some of the dust and shaking his head.

“How was it?” Sam asked, unable to hide his envy.

“Dusty,” Dean said. “And dark.” He grimaced. “Let’s go watch Sonic.”

As Sam gathered Dean and the flashlight up in his hands, Dean sent a longing look at the wall entrance. He didn’t want Sam to worry, but he also wanted to see what it was really like in there.

One day.

Brothers Saved: Burgers, Bacon and Bobby

Bobby, naturally, has his own way with the kids, and likely understands how Dean is feeling a lot better. He’s here to support them both!

Tomorrow the story will continue, in Brothers Saved: Hidden Entrances.

Sam and Bobby were quick with the meal. Throughout the preparation time, Bobby hadn’t pried about what upset the young kid, his cheeks bright and splotchy while he blinked more often than usual. It was obvious Sam was trying to recover from whatever John had told him, but Bobby couldn’t hear what had gone down in the library.

Nudging Sam in the arm, Bobby winked at him. “Got some of Dean’s favorite,” he said. “Why don’t you be the one to bring it to him.”

The creases in Sam’s face vanished as he looked up at Bobby finally. Up until then he’d just been punching the ground meat and forcing it into the shape of a patty. Nothing a kid couldn’t handle.

The expression on Sam’s face was so hopeful, Bobby couldn’t stop a faint smile of his own. “You bet,” he said, answering Sam’s unspoken question. He gestured at the bag of food that he’d brought in. “Plenty of bacon he can put on his burger, and some pie for later.”

Sam’s shoulders fell again. “But Dean’s too small for a burger,” he said petulantly. “How’s he ‘upposed to eat it?” His voice hiccuped as he talked, giving Bobby insight that Sam was more upset than he was letting on.

John Winchester needed to figure out a way to relate to these kids without being so hamfisted. Bobby silently swore. One kid was too small to defend himself and the other was much too young.

“We’ll make one special for Dean,” Bobby said, trying to make light of the situation for Sam’s sake. “Just you watch.”

He chided the kid to the sink to wash up, then gave Sam one of the juice boxes they’d picked up on the way back. Considering that John had planned on just leaving the kid with the hot dogs and water for however long it took to hunt the witch down, Bobby had prevailed on him to pick up more useful provisions. Kids needed more than meat and water, whatever John thought they could survive on.

Sam sat at the table, watching with watery eyes as Bobby took one of the burgers and diced it down into much smaller segments. He tested with several, ended up with Sam eating a few of the pieces that didn’t work out, until he had one that stayed together and fit on a small pinch of bun that Bobby judged would come close to the size Dean would need to eat.

Selecting one of the pieces of bacon sizzling in the pan next to the burgers, Bobby handed it off to Sam, keeping the kid involved. “See what you can do with that for Dean,” he encouraged Sam. “He’s probably starved for some real food.”

This got Sam’s first real smile since Bobby had come, and while he finished up the last few burgers, Sam sat there, biting his tongue and delicately putting together the smallest burger so it was just right. A sliver of tomato, the tiniest bit of lettuce, several crumbs of bacon, and the bun pinched around everything.

Bobby was glad to see some life in the younger Winchester boy as he worked diligently on the food for Dean. When he finished prepping the other sandwiches, he handed one off to Sam. “Don’t forget to bring Dean some ketchup,” he advised, adding a bottle cap to the pile and a second juice box. “He’ll feel the better with food in him.”

” ‘Kay,” Sam replied blithely, the pad of his feet running to the library echoing behind him as Bobby followed, suppressing a smile as he heard Sam loudly proclaiming the meal they had ahead of them.

Then Bobby was in the room, handing off a burger to John before he could say a word to Sam about only bringing food for the two of them.

“Hey, Dean,” Bobby said, keeping his voice soft.

Dean glanced up, obviously stiff as he nodded in Bobby’s direction. “Thank you for the food, sir,” he responded.

Bobby had to hide a frown of disapproval at the formal way Dean was talking. It wasn’t like the kid, normally so cocky and full of confidence.

Not a word was said when they shared out the food, but Bobby could see the way that Dean inched his seat closer to Sam’s, sticking close to the person he knew the best.

Bobby would have given anything to be a fly on the wall while Dean and John had been in there alone, just to hear what the man had told his son, considering how fragile Dean’s position currently was and how delicate his state of mind must be.
